Story of Our New War Memorial
We are raising funds to build a large stone war memorial and install it pitch side on Centenary Fields. The redevelopment of the fields is approaching the final stages of ground engineering and will be ready this autumn.

Centenary Fields is an area of land to be held in perpetuity for sporting activity in honour of all those who fell during the Great War and especially those 22 Herons who gave their lives in that conflict. We have planted an avenue of trees in remembrance of all our fallen.

We are now able to place a permanent stone memorial in memory of the 22, those 12 Herons who fell in the Second War and Tom Curry who fell in Afghanistan next to our new pitches.

The memorial is to be suitably inscribed and contains a personal tribute to Tom from his friends who grew up and played with him.

This memorial will complete our obligation to the memory of all our heroes and be a permanent reminder to us of all, of the debt we owe them.

On behalf of Wanstead RFC, my thanks for your support and donations.

Mike Calvert, President.
